What are the current applications of decorative paper?
Decorative paper is an indispensable raw material in many building materials products, such as low-pressure boards, high-pressure boards used in furniture and cabinets, furniture paper(decorating furniture with paper) as well as fireproof boards and floors.
What is the role of decorative paper?
Decorative paper is placed under the surface paper in the product structure, mainly to provide decorative patterns and cover to prevent the bottom layer of glue from seeping through. This layer requires the paper to have good hiding power, impregnation and printing properties. Decorative paper requires a smooth surface, good absorption and adaptability, uniform color for base color, and bright color for color.
Market changes of decorative paper:
1.In the late 1990s, the furniture produced in society was still mainly solid wood furniture. With the development of the times, decorative paper veneer furniture has become the darling of the market with its novelty and beauty, overcoming the disadvantages of solid wood furniture, such as heavy weight, many gaps, high cost and monotonous colors.
2.Our decorative paper has been used in our country for more than 30 years. In the late 1960s, our country used decorative paper to make fireproof boards, which were manufactured by some state-owned large factories.
3.By the end of the 1970s, research began on making direct veneer paper, because it requires a very high pressure, up to 60 or 70 kilograms of pressure. General man-made boards including particle boards cannot withstand such pressure, so high pressure can only be made into fireproof boards first, and then glue is used. Its manufacturing process is very complicated. It must be heated first and then cooled before it can be taken out. At that time, the main veneer was used for the veneer of medium-density fiberboard and particleboard. Medium-density fiberboard was not used until the mid-1990s, mainly used in kitchen furniture and office furniture.
4. Until around 2001, there were foreign brands of fireproof board manufacturing, and some production bases were located in China. For example, some foreign brands of decorative paper also set up factories in China. With the production of laminate flooring, some imported paper was used, especially fireproof board. It was found that the appearance of fireproof board produced by imported paper was completely different from that of fireproof board produced by domestic paper. It was brand new. The original high-pressure fireproof board had declined a little since the extrusion process came out. After all, the utilization of resources or the production was relatively troublesome, so it declined a little. However, with the use of some imported paper, its market suddenly improved again. It was mainly used in kitchen and office furniture until now.
Types of decorative paper
1.From their different quantitative and usage:they can be divided into many types.
2.According to the quantitative of decorative paper: thin paper, quantitative ≤30g/m
Decorative paper (titanium dioxide paper), quantitative ≥40 g/m2, mainly 70-120 g/m2.
3.Regarding to the usage: Polaroid paper – thin paper, wood grain printed on the paper surface, used for MDF, HDF, plywood veneer, adhesive is required for veneer, and coating is required after veneer.
4.Gorgeous paper – thin paper, the paper surface has been printed and coated, used for MDF, HDF, plywood veneer, adhesive is required for veneer, and coating is generally not required after veneer, and it is used in places where wear resistance is not required.
5.Pre-painted paper – decorative paper (titanium dioxide paper), with wood grain printed on the paper surface, impregnated or coated with a small amount of resin, with a resin content of 20% to 60%. Low-quantity paper is used for MDF veneer, and high-quantity paper is used for edge banding. Adhesive needs to be applied during veneer, and generally no finishing is performed after veneer. The wear resistance is higher than that of gorgeous paper.
6.Low-pressure melamine impregnated paper – decorative paper (titanium dioxide paper), with wood grain printed on the paper surface, impregnated with low-pressure melamine resin, with a resin content of 130% to 150%, used for particleboard and MDF veneer, no glue is required during veneer, and no finishing is performed after veneer. The wear resistance is higher than that of pre-painted paper. The resin content of 70% to 100% is used for laminate flooring, and the wear resistance depends on the surface paper.
7.High-pressure melamine impregnated paper – decorative paper (titanium dioxide paper), with wood grain printed on the paper surface, impregnated with high-pressure melamine resin, with a resin content of 60% to 100%, used to make decorative laminates (fireproof boards), and the wear resistance depends on the surface paper.
